How to Win

Judging Criteria & Scoring

Your entry is evaluated across three pillars and six content qualities. Understanding these is your competitive advantage — the best entries score well on all of them.

40%
📡

Awareness & Reach

How widely your content spreads. Measured by verified impressions, unique reach, engagement rate and cross-platform amplification.

  • Total verified impressions across platforms
  • Unique reach and audience growth during campaign window
  • Engagement rate — comments, shares, saves
  • Cross-border amplification across SEA countries
  • Media pick-up and earned coverage
40%
🎯

Content Quality

The educational and creative standard of your video. Judged by a panel of academics, industry experts and communications professionals.

  • Scientific and technical accuracy — facts must be verifiable
  • Clarity of explanation — can a layperson understand it?
  • Storytelling and narrative structure
  • Production quality — audio, visuals, pacing
  • Language localisation and cultural relevance to SEA
20%
🤖

AI Innovation

How creatively and responsibly you use AI tools. Transparency is rewarded — show your workflow, not just your output.

  • Originality of AI application in the creative process
  • Transparency — AI disclosure clearly stated
  • Human-AI collaboration depth and intentionality
  • Reproducibility — open workflow others can learn from
  • Responsible and ethical use of AI tools

What Makes Winning Content?

The jury evaluates each entry against these six qualities. Great STEM content does not need a big budget — it needs a clear idea, genuine passion, and these six ingredients.

💡

Innovation

A fresh angle on a STEM topic. Does your video present an idea, experiment or perspective not covered the same way before? Novelty is rewarded over repetition.

e.g. Explaining quantum computing through a local cultural metaphor rather than the standard textbook approach.
🔬

Accuracy & Credibility

Your facts must be correct and verifiable. Claims should be grounded in current science or established engineering principles. Misinformation — even unintentional — disqualifies an entry.

e.g. Citing peer-reviewed sources, official data or your own professional expertise when making scientific claims.
🎬

Creativity & Storytelling

A strong hook in the first three seconds, a clear narrative arc, and a memorable conclusion all score highly. Visual creativity and editing quality matter.

e.g. Opening with a surprising question or unexpected visual that makes viewers stop scrolling immediately.
🌏

SEA Relevance

Does your content speak to a Southeast Asian audience? Local examples, regional challenges, and content in local languages with subtitles demonstrate cultural relevance.

e.g. Discussing food science through Malaysian fermentation traditions or Indonesian agricultural innovation.
⚙️

Practicality & Real-World Impact

Does your content connect to real-world problems, solutions or career pathways? Applied STEM content scores higher than purely theoretical explanations.

e.g. Showing how a specific engineering principle is applied in an actual infrastructure project in the region.
🗣️

Accessibility & Clarity

Can your target audience understand your content? Avoiding unnecessary jargon, using clear visuals and explaining step by step all demonstrate communication excellence.

e.g. Breaking down CRISPR gene editing so that a high school student can follow and feel inspired to learn more.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it free to enter?+
Yes, completely free. Create a YouthsToday Influencer account and accept the task — no credit card or payment required at any stage.
Do I need a large social media following?+
No minimum follower count required. The Awareness pillar (40% of your score) measures growth and engagement generated by your entry video specifically — not your pre-existing audience size.
What happens after I click "Apply for Task"?+
Your application enters a review queue. Our team verifies eligibility within 5–7 business days. If approved, you'll receive an email and your campaign brief is unlocked in your YouthsToday dashboard. You can then create your content any time before the October deadline.
Can I enter more than one award track?+
Yes. You can enter multiple tracks, but each entry must be a separate, original video created specifically for that track. You cannot submit the same video to more than one category.
Is AI-generated content allowed?+
Yes — and celebrated. There is a dedicated AI Excellence Award track. Disclose any AI tools used in your submission form. Fully AI-generated content is permitted but scores lower on Content Quality without clear human creative direction.
Can a team enter together?+
Yes. Youth category teams: up to 3 members. Open and Professional teams: up to 5 members. One member must be designated as primary contact. Prize contracts are issued to the primary contact.
Does my video have to be in English?+
Your video can be in English or any SEA language (Bahasa Malaysia, Bahasa Indonesia, Thai, Vietnamese, Tagalog, etc.). English subtitles are required for all non-English submissions.
